This summer has been incredibly busy for us with 3 back-to-back festivals (Digital Dreams, Tomorrowland and VELD) so, we couldn’t be more happier than to catch up with some friends. The location of choice for this particular evening was Fionn MacCool’s on the Esplanade. With a new menu full of unexpected flavours and a worldly selection of drinks, we decided it was the perfect setting for a mini patio soirée.
We started our dinner with the Salt & Pepper Calamari which was served with their made-in Pub red pepper jelly. The lightly breaded exterior made this appy an excellent start to our meal. The highlight of this dish was definitely the red pepper jelly which was devoured before the calamari was even finished.
New twists to the menu are the pies! The pies and pie pastry are made-in-pub to ensure maximum freshness. 3 of us had ordered the Lamb Pie but unfortunately there was only one remaining in the kitchen. Lucky for me, I snagged that last pie while the others settled for the Chicken Pie and the Seafood Pie. The verdict? A definite must-try on the menu — whether it’s lamb, chicken or seafood pie either choice would be just as satisfying.
If pies aren’t your cup of tea, try the Tandoori Street Sandwich. Inspired by a similar dish in Singapore, Chef Brian Jurek added a few of his own twists to a typical tandoori dish — lightly seasoned tandoori chicken wrapped in warm nan bread topped with a cooling citrus mint yogurt. Yummy!
Overall, we enjoyed the great service, good food and quaint patio.
