Live Review: Dave Matthews Band @ Molson Canadian Amphitheatre (5/28)

It’s officially concert season, people!

Last Tuesday (May 28) kicked off Molson Canadian Amphitheatre’s first summer concert of 2013 with none other than American rock legends, Dave Matthews Band.

DMB’s 2013 Summer Concert tour is in full swing with die-hard fans riled up and selling out each of their North American stops.

Man, we love this time of year. It’s all about kicking back, relaxing and enjoying the finer tunes in life. It seems our friends at Dreaming Tree Wine feel the same way! They were kind enough to invite us to attend DMB’s Toronto show while sampling some of their wines. For those who don’t know, Dreaming Tree is a wine brand started by front man, Dave Matthews himself. A passion for fine wine and music can go hand-in-hand my friends. ;)

Although the rain was heavy, the weather didn’t seem to deter fans in the slightest. I have to make mention that this crowd was a nice change from the hard rock and adrenaline fueled concerts we’ve been covering lately. Everyone was chill – everyone was there for the music.

DMB opened the night with their classic track ‘Tripping Billies’ to an exhilarated audience. This was my 3rd time seeing the guys perform live and every show has been an acoustic sounding marvel. Dave has a way of drawing the audience in too – he’s a charmer. Our highlights from the night were transitions into ‘Mercy’, ‘JTR’, ‘Jimi Thing’ and a beautiful anticipated encore into ‘Two Step’.

Some critics have observed that their current tour surprisingly contains little content from their latest album, Away from the World. This might be intentional. Although the new album has received critical acclaim (ranked #29 in Rolling Stone’s top 50 albums of 2012), most DMB fans are old school. They want to hear the multi-platinum hits that made DMB a household name in rock. For me personally, I’m one of those fans. One of the first albums I ever bought was Crash, and to this day is still my all time favourite DMB creation.

Set List for the night:

Tripping Billies
You Might Die Trying
The Idea of You
Belly Belly Nice
So Right
The Stone
Jimi Thing
Ants Marching
Encore: Two Step

Thanks again to Dreaming Tree Wine for inviting us to tag along. Check out to see their selection of wines. I recommend the ‘Crush’ Red Blend – it can be picked up in LCBO’s across Ontario.

Why didn’t he play ‘Crush’?? It’s the name of his wine! :(

@Jenny We were hoping to hear it as well too! It’s ok though… Luckily DMB has many other hits ;)

What an amazing show – but Canada wants more ! Please like our FB pages to let DMB know we want them back:
