Hey readers! Here’s an event we sunk our teeth into.
Toronto’s food lovers and do-gooders met up at Corus Quay on May 8th to witness the Daily Bread Food Bank’s second annual Ultimate Food Challenge – a culinary competition that supports the charity’s Food Services Training Program and meal programs for low-income children and families.
In true food battle fashion, the contest challenged three local chefs to prepare a gourmet dish made from simple food bank staples. Each were given 30 minutes to whip up their creations before a lucky group of celebrity judges who sampled the delights and chose a winner.
As guests, we had the opportunity to enjoy lots of awesome food, including the three challenge dishes made in the competition. Dessert bar, drinks, gourmet hors d’oeuvres from Daily Bread’s Catering Kitchen and signature dishes from each of the competing chefs’ restaurants – you get the point… NOM.
A silent auction was also available to the party goers. We had our eye on the vintage stadium seats from Maple Leaf Gardens – we were outbid pretty quickly on that one though.
Chefs and Challenge Dishes:
Chef Jason Parsons (Executive Chef, Peller Estates Winery) - Ham, Cheddar and Potato Croquettes
Chef Alexandra Feswick (Executive Chef, The Samuel J. Moore, The Great Hall) - Western Falafel [WINNER]
Chef Devan Rajkumar (Executive Chef, Bosch & Branding Chef, Food Dudes) - Vegetarian Slider [Fan Favourite, Dinosaurus Rex's Favourite too!]
Judges: Arlene Dickinson (Dragon’s Den), Erin Davis (98.1 CHFI’s Morning Show), Leslie Roberts (Anchor of News Hour), Melissa Grelo (CP24 Anchor) and Suman Roy (Executive Chef, Campbell Company of Canada)
Co-Hosts: Humble Howard Glassman (The Humble & Fred Radio Show), Fred Patterson (The Humble & Fred Radio Show), Josie Dye (102.1 The Edge), Preet Banerjee (Host of Oprah’s Million Dollar Neighbourhood)
Congrats to the chefs, Daily Bread and the event sponsors Campbells, Canadian Pacific, Corus Entertainment and Nutella.
If you didn’t make it out to this once a year event, put it on your bucket list for next year ya’ here? Rawr.
