Top 5 Fall 2013 Trends From New York Fashion Week

The snowflakes and frost hugging our windows may have kept some of us indoors but over in the Big Apple, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has been bursting with drama, colour and pajama silhouettes. Say hello to comfort clothing and creative cutouts this fall and be prepared as black and reds dominate this coming season. Other notable colours are magentas, oranges (like our dinosaur) and deep purples.

So as Torontonians prepare for the upcoming World MasterCard Fashion Week, here are the Top 5 Fall 2013 Trends from New York.

#1: Black

Our favourite shade is making a much bolder appearance and allowing shape to play the starring role in this noir trend. Accent your blacks with metallic lace or shades of red or pink.

#2: Pajama Silhouettes

My favourite trend for fall is definitely comfort clothing. With baggy but structured styles peppering the runways, stock up on some chic, understated pieces that can easily be transitioned into winter.

#3. Suit up!

Blazers and suits were all over the runway – some had defining waists and others rocked a more boxy and carefree look.

#4. Daring Slits

Jennifer Lopez sported a super sexy high slit dress at the Grammy’s this year and the trend will be continuing into the fall.

2013 New York Fashion Week - Bold Slits - Monique Lhuillier - Reem Acra - Badgley Mischka

#5. Rough Textures

Have fun with texture this season and look for unusual combinations. Embossed leather, wool  furs, tweed and lace appeared on the runways with many outerwear pieces trending towards over-sized.

Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week will be held at David Pecaut Square during the week of March 18 – 22, 2013. Designers that we can expect to see are Pink Tartan, Chloé Comme Parris, Joe Fresh and Mackage amongst many others.

I can’t wait to see the collections that will be showcased on the runway!
