Music Africa Presents: Afrofest 2012 @ Woodbine Park

Music Africa Presents: Afrofest 2012 @ Woodbine Park

This summer is loaded with music festivals of every kind and genre. You’ve probably noticed that we’ve been attending quite a bit of them lately. Me, Karl, and the rest of the Dinosaurus Rex gang always have an amazing time at these events. I think submersing yourself among other people as they express their love for their music is the best way to experience Torontonian culture and diversity. Not to mention these always end up being the BEST parties. :D

Afrofest - Ladies

On July 7-8, Music Africa presented Afrofest – a weekend-long celebration of African culture and diversity centred on non-stop music and dance. It wasn’t surprising that the event brought in an incredible amount of people. Over the course of the two-day event, thousands of music fanatics and families gathered at Woodbine Park to join in the festivities.

Afrofest Crowd

We had an amazing time at the event. Many of the performances featured catchy rhythms and beats that got me and the crowd going. While I was getting my dance-on, Karl stuffed his face at the food vendors, and the rest of the gang spent some time checking out the array of merch shops setup around the park. Overall, you couldn’t ask for a more unique and diverse event that was fit for the whole family.

If you didn’t get a chance, check out our interview with Juno Award winning band, African Guitar Summit, and hear what they had to say about the festival. Their performance headlined the first day of the celebration while many other talented bands played throughout the weekend.
