Bluebird ‘a food & art thing’ @ The Burroughes

Bluebird ‘a food & art thing’ @ The Burroughes

Last Saturday June 2nd, was the 3rd annual Bluebird ‘a food & art thing’ exhibition at The Burroughes . Chris and I were pretty excited when we first heard about this art show. How could we turn down the opportunity to attend an event that combines our three key passions? – Food, Art & Charity.

Canned goods Provided for the Blue Bird event When we first arrived we had a chance to meet up with Devan Rajkumar, Creative Chef for The Food Dudes inc. and founder of Bluebird. Devan was kind enough to give us a brief history of the event and talk about his passion for bringing community, food and art together. Through innovative forward thinking, Bluebird brings Food Art to a whole new level by inviting local artists to captivate, shock and awe guests with their culinary art skills. Focus is drawn toward the community to help support Toronto’s hungry as Dailybread Food Bank is the prime sponsor for the event – and accepted non-perishable food donations as cover charge.

The Art

Various mediums were used in the exhibits – ranging from paintings, prosciutto covered mannequins and colourful cakes. The M&M reticulation pixel art and guest food painting station were fun additions as well. The piece that most caught my eye was a graffiti that encapsulated the Toronto cityscape on several wood slats. I have a habit of taking pictures of the CN tower every time I pass by it – we just don’t have gorgeous cityscapes like this in my hometown :(

The Food

The night was catered by Food Dudes inc. who made me feel right at home with an ample supply of drinks and chef inspired hors d’oeuvres. Great DJ’ing and MC’ing were provided by the hosts and a raffle was even drawn for some fun prizes. We bought raffle tickets hoping to win the grand prize, “a dinner for 10 with Devan Rajkumar himself, as the chef”. However, some other lucky guy won it. So I bought some “special” mojitos and a Bluebird T-shit to make up for the loss. :)

Congratulations to all the skilful artists and sponsors who volunteered their time to Bluebird’s cause. Also, special mention goes out to Food Dudes inc. and Evolution Public Relations for organizing such a smart event.
