“Thunder Bichin’ Burgers!” – The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro

“Thunder Bichin’ Burgers!” – The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro

For those who have never heard of this burger place, you’re in for a treat. The Works is a restaurant chain originating from Ottawa that has only recently begun opening up franchises in the GTA area.

Having grown up in Ottawa, I recall spending quite a few birthdays, happy hours and hang outs in these unique restaurants. These were go-to destinations for me and the buddies to kick-back with some beer and good food.

Offering over 70 different “Thunder Bichin’ ” topping combinations – where else can I get a Canadian beef patty topped with peanut butter, jack cheese, bacon and pineapple?  That’s the burger I had on my first visit to The Works eight years ago.  Try washing that down with a peanut butter chocolate milkshake…yeah I know… young Chris, what were you thinking?!

I was thrilled to hear that new locations had opened up in Toronto and Oakville. A lady-friend and I went to the Oakville location (149 Lakeshore Road East) last weekend and as expected, the lineup was huge. You should note that all locations are fairly small and intimate to give a more genuine feel to the place.

We ordered my favourite to start – the Tower-O-Rings.

Tower-O-Rings

I liked how the menu was locally tailored to Oakville.  The lady-friend ordered the Oakville Hall of Famer (fresh avocado slices and Monterey jack) and I had the SNAP-taculour (gouda cheese, crispy bacon and fresh avocado).

How was the taste? As advertised – Thunder Bichin’ !

We’ll be trying the Danforth location next (888 Danforth Avenue).
