On May 17th, Chivas Regal hosted another scotch tasting event at Brassaii. I missed their last few events so I made sure to attend this one. Who can pass up good Scotch?
In my opinion, and I do speak with some authority on this matter, spending many nights myself with a good bottle of scotch and ice – Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky is excellent and recommended for entry level tasters and easily appreciated by the connoisseurs.
The Chivas team offered three types of serving options for us to try:
- Perfect Serve: Chivas served neat, on the rocks or with water
- Rob Roy: A twist on the classic Manhattan, Chivas, sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters and an orange zest. Served on the rocks or up in a chilled cocktail glass.
- Old Fashion: A true cocktail dating back in the early 1800s, Chivas, sugar, Angostura bitters, water and an orange zest. Served on the rocks.
I liked the Rob Roy. It has a ‘complex taste’ for the average drink, perfect for patios and long weekends.
What about the venue?
Brassaii is almost near hidden. Located off the street at 461 King Street West, it can easily be missed if just passing by. I however enjoy the alley walk to this club/restaurant and found it away from the noisy street. The patio is a great mix of lounge and bar while the inside reveals several large dining rooms. The crowd on Fridays and Saturdays are young 25′s and older and on select nights everyone can be found there. Just be sure to try and show up early before 11 pm on weekends for shorter lineups.
Dinosuarus Rex is looking forward to attending Chivas’ next event! Look for us at the Art of Scotch: Tuesday, May 22 from 7pm to 10pm at the MJG Gallery, 555 Parliament St.
